Ultrasonic Marine Anti-fouling System

Reduce barnacle & mussel growth to improve performace

of your powerboat or sailboat

Properly installed and maintained the ULTRASONIC MARINE ANTI-FOULING SYSTEM will not only help keep the hull clear but also rudders, props and keels clear too. A cleaner hull gives better fuel efficiency and also less time spent in a dry dock.

  • Affordable initial costs and long term savings.

  • Low consumption – typically under 4 watts per transducer.

  • Minimal installation – no holes are needed in the hull.

  • Active transducers to eliminate interference to other equipment.

  • Suitable for glass-fibre, aluminium & steel hulls.

  • Based on our US design and modified to meet the standards of the UK Royal Navy.

  • Designed and manufactured in the U.K.

HOW IT WORKS

Water borne micro-organisms and bacteria attach themselves to an unprotected boat hull. These micro-organisms are a food source for barnacles. When you eliminate the environment where these micro-organisms live and thrive then you eliminate the growth of barnacles and mussels.

Our ultrasonic systems make your boat’s hull less desirable to these micro-organisms.

Ultrasonic Marine anti-fouling system creates sound waves that move water molecules over the underwater profile of your boat's hull. Micro-organism growth is prevented because the they can’t survive in the environment created by the ultrasonic frequencies along your boat’s hull.

The transducers are directly fixed to the inside of the boat hull along with the digital control unit. Properly installed and maintained the USM anti-fouling system will help keep rudders, props and keels clear too.

THE USM SYSTEM

Anchor 1

Using experience gained in the military the USM antifouling system is designed to be very effective yet competitively priced.

Easy Installation

Installing the USM system is a simple process that can confidently be taken on by anyone who enjoys working on their own boat or your local marine maintenance facility. The components are ready to be attached and hooked up right out of the box. Complete instructions are included.

The Transducers are attached along the inside surface of the hull using marine adhesive. No holes are needed in the hull.

  • Our experience in ultrasonic technology was developed having been a supplier for industrial and aerospace transducer markets.

  • Safely operates without interference to other nearby equipment. Exceeds CE requirements.

  • Smaller re-designed Transducer using new acoustic matching techniques which also reduces power consumption.

  • Active transducers to eliminate interference to other equipment.

  • Suitable for fiberglass, aluminum and steel hulls.

  • Power control is programmed to gradually reduce transmitted power to protect battery if battery voltage falls during operation.

Components & Technical Details

Each system includes a Control Box with status LEDs and 1 to 4 Transducer units depending on the size of the vessel. The active transducer has a status LED to show correct operation and the number of Transducers needed depends on the size of the boat.  ( See the guide below )

The Ultrasonic Marine system includes Transducer cables and Control Box power cables.

Care has been taken to exceed the requirements of the CE specifications to avoid electromagnetic interference to other equipment nearby.

Included in the USM system are the Control Box power cables and screened coaxial cables system for connections between the Control box and the transducers.

Control Box AF204C (Box Size 110 x 120 x 67mm)

Ultrasonic Marine Control Box
  • LED light shows unit operation status.

  • Each Control Box has outputs for up to 4 transducers. Larger vessels needing more than 4 transducers will require extra Control Boxes.

  • Control box is waterproof and can be installed in the most convenient position in the craft, including the harsh environment of the engine room.

  • Transducers are connected by standard RG59A cables. Maximum length of each run should be less than 30 m. They can be made up on site using RG59A cables or supplied by us ready terminated with connectors in the following standard lengths: 5m & 10m.

  • Inputs for 12V or 24V DC ships supplies and also for the optional 110/230 volt AC power supply to run from a shore supply.

  • The system automatically switches over to the vessel’s battery when disconnected from the optional shore supply. If battery voltage is low, power is gradually reduced and at a determined point, switched off to protect the battery.

  • A solar supply can be used instead of the shore supply and should be rated at least 80 watt output according to where the vessel is based and number of transducers installed.

  • Designed for the requirements of the UK and US navies for support vessels.

  • LED display to present status of all functions.

  • Each Control Box has outputs for up to 4 transducers. Larger vessels needing more than 4 transducers will require extra Control Boxes.

  • Control box is waterproof and can be installed in the most convenient position in the craft, including the harsh environment of the engine room.

  • Transducers are connected by standard RG6A cables. Maximum length of each run should be less than 100 m. They can be made up on site using RG6A cables.Inputs are for 24V DC ships supplies or  from the optional 100/240V 50-60Hz AC IP67 power supply.

  • If battery voltage is low, power is gradually reduced and at a determined point, switched off to protect the battery.

  • A solar supply can be used instead of the shore supply and should be rated at least 80 watt output according to where the vessel is based and number of transducers installed.

Transducer (Size 57 x 100 mm)

Ultrasonic Marine Transducer
  • Transducer has LED to show status.

  • The active transducers contain all the high voltage drive circuitry. We use a 24 volt AC feed with control signals. This eliminates interference to other equipment through radiation from a long cable from the control box. Also damaged cables from rats in bilge water will not cause electrocution.

  • The transducer is simply bonded to the hull using Isopon P38, Devcon or similar epoxy resin.

  • A reasonably clear area should be chosen on the hull and sanded clean to key the surface and improve adhesion.

  • Only glass fibre, aluminium or steel hulls are suitable.

  • Stainless studs shown in picture can be supplied for welding to water and oil tanks to help in the installation of the transducer.

Typical Positioning

Typical Position for Sail Boat

Up to 10m Water Line Length
